Our neighbors from the north, Canadians, can boast of a startup Wabbi that is making a splash in the world of autonomous trucks, thanks to its advanced virtual simulation which they called “Wabbi World”.
The creators of this simulator themselves claim that Wabbi World is the most advanced simulator in the world and the key to unlocking the potential of autonomous driving technology. They believe that they have created, with the help of artificial intelligence, such a highly realistic environment that their driverless trucks do not need so many road tests in real conditions.
Waabi’s IT specialists have created a digital twin of a real truck – a robotruck, which is equipped with a large number of sensors that constantly record the situation on the road. They then compared the performance of the digital twin with a real truck and it turned out that Waabi achieves 99.7% accuracy, simulating various road scenarios, weather conditions, and even unexpected events.
Raquel Urtasun, the founder and CEO of Waabi, claims that “Self-driving trucks have the potential to change the world of logistics, saving many lives and ensuring a more sustainable future. Waabi’s Generative AI technology is turning this promise into reality with a safe, efficient, and scalable solution unlike anything else on the market.”
At the beginning of this year, Waabi joined forces with the Swedish truck manufacturer Volvo to build and commercialize autonomous trucks. This was a huge step forward and the last element that the startup needed to develop. Currently, Waabi trucks are moving with a person behind the wheel who acts as a safety driver. However, the company plans to switch to fully unmanned vehicles later this year.
To achieve this, they must prove to regulators that all systems are 100 percent safe, and Waabi World is supposed to help them with this.
